Our CSAs

What is a CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. When you subscribe to one of our Produce CSAs, you are buying a share of our farm's harvest in advance. Each week for the Share timeframe, typically either 10 or 20 weeks, you will receive a box of fresh vegetables grown using sustainable methods at the Needham Community Farm.

What Do You Get?

The contents of your weekly CSA box will vary based on the season. In April or May, you will receive spring onions, pea shoots, herbs, and other greens. In June, you will receive salad mixes, radishes, peas, herbs, kale, tomatoes, and more. During July and August, you will receive tomatoes, peppers, lettuces, squash, and more. In October and November, you will receive potatoes, squash, onions, and more storage vegetables. For a larger list of what to expect, you can review our growing chart here.

How Much Do I Get?

Your Spring CSA box will meet the produce needs of 2-3 family members a week. A summer CSA box will meet the produce needs of 3-4 family members a week. A Fall CSA box will meet the produce needs of 3-4 family members a week. Please note: seasonal challenges such as weather and pest pressure can impact the expected vegetables.

Why Are There Cost Increases?

Cost increases are a difficult decision for NCF. We have limited our increases over the years and only raise prices when absolutely necessary. Operation costs have increased significantly over the past five years, which has caused us to make this decision. We are working hard to sustain the same prices for next season and the following.

Why Should I Buy a CSA?

Your purchase of a CSA share gives us a consistent revenue stream and allows us to focus on good land stewardship and growing high quality food. Know that we will do our best to provide you with fresh, in-season vegetables at an average value of $45 per week (summer and fall) throughout the season.

Where do I pick up my shares?

CSA pick-up will be in downtown Needham or (new for 2026!) on the Farm at Pine Street. We will have specific pickup location options during registration.

What is the difference between a CSA share and vegetables at my local grocery store?

Our vegetables are grown on the Farm using sustainable and organic methods. You can read more about our methods here. We work hard to ensure your value per box exceeds your cost of the CSA. In addition, your purchase of a CSA share gives us a consistent revenue stream and allows us to focus on good land stewardship and growing high quality food. Further, purchasing produce from local farms cuts down on the transportation costs and impacts from produce coming from out of state - which is a win for the environment!

What type of communications from NCF will I get?

CSA shareholders receive a weekly communication from the Farm Manager with updates on the upcoming harvest and box inclusions. Sometimes these emails will include relevant recipes as well.

What do I do if I am away and cannot pick up my share?

NCF recommends that you ask a friend or neighbor to pick up your share for you.
